Well, our federal government is once again preparing to blow your tax dollars in ways you never even imagined was possible.

The $1.7 trillion “omnibus” bill unveiled in the US Senate on Tuesday to fund the federal government for another fiscal year has received criticism for its spending perks and rules. The bill includes $858 billion in defense funding and $772.5 billion for non-defense “discretionary programs”.

One of the provisions in the bill includes more than $1.5 million in requirements for “border management requirements” for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, but also includes $410 million for border security for Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Oman. The Heritage Foundation released a list of “WOKE PRIORITIES IN THE OMNIBUS”, including several LGBTQ projects and “anti-racism” initiatives.

These include $1.2 million for “LGBTQIA+ Pride Centers”, $477,000 for the Equity Institute in Rhode Island to indoctrinate teachers with ‘antiracism virtual labs’, and $3 million for the American LGBTQ+ Museum. The omnibus also seeks to fund the creation of a “Ukrainian Independence Park” and designates a federal building in San Francisco as the “Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building”. There is also a $3.6 million Transportation Department allotment for a “Michelle Obama Trail” in Georgia.

Outgoing Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) received $511 million worth of earmarks in the omnibus and Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) received earmarks worth over $656 million, as well as having an FBI training center renamed after him. The package also includes $2.63 billion for U.S. attorneys, including funding for prosecutions related to the January 6 attack on the Capitol and domestic terrorism cases.

Seriously though, this bill is loaded with what Ben Sasse refers to as a “crаp sandwich”. This is the clearest example demonstrating why our government is so messed up. They spend tons of hard-earned taxpayer money on garbage like this. And why? Just because they can.
