WHAT?! Democrats Afraid Trump Will Become Speaker of the House…Without Being a Member
Rep. Jamie Raskin from Maryland, made a wild statement to journalist Margaret Brennan on Sunday’s episode of “Face the Nation.” He was discussing the possibility that a faction of the Republican Party might nominate President Trump as their candidate if the Republicans were to end up winning the House.
Raskin stated that pro-Trump legislators in the House may reject House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s bid for the post and instead nominate Trump for the job. McCarthy is running for the position of minority leader of the House of Representatives.
During the course of the presentation, Brennan challenged Raskin by stating that the idea of making Trump the speaker was not a “real option.”
“Well, they talk about it repeatedly,” Raskin replied. “And if Trump decided he wanted to do it, it would pose a profound problem for their party because they refuse to do the right thing,” he said.
“And they might just vote for Trump, when they, you know, take the roll call for speaker,” Raskin said. “So, we know that the hard right Freedom Caucus people are in search of another candidate and one potential candidate whose name has been floated is Donald Trump himself, because the speaker of the House does not have to be a member of the House. And they are talking about putting Trump right there.”
Rep. Raskin is concerned Trump could become Speaker of the House.

So, is there any truth to this? Well, I’m not really sure to be quite honest with you, but from what I can tell, that doesn’t look like it’s true.
While President Trump is expected to make a big announcement on Tuesday, I don’t think that this one is going to be it. I don’t even think that he’s going to announce whether or not he’s running for president once again. I think that it will be something completely different.
I’m going to continue looking into it, but it seems that the only language that I can find in the Constitution regarding choosing the Speaker and it not stating that they be a member only seems to refer to choosing a Speaker in the case of impeachment. So, if you’re hoping for President Trump to become the next Speaker of the House, don’t get your hopes up about it.
