World Bank Upgrades Several Countries
In February, Biden slapped new sanctions on Russia after the death of Navalny.
At the time, Biden demanded lawmakers approve a $95 billion measure for the region that included military aid for Kyiv. Biden also vowed to punish Putin.
“We in the United States are going to continue to ensure that Putin pays a price for his aggression abroad and repression at home,” he said.
In December of 2023, Biden signed an executive order that allowed further sanctions to be imposed on the country over their invasion of Ukraine.
So here we are in the middle of 2024 and guess what happened?
The World Bank has upgraded Russia’s economy.
Russia’s economy has defeated Biden’s sanctions since Moscow invaded Ukraine in February 2022. The World Bank has recently classified Russia as a “high-income country.” According to a report from the financial institution’s economists, Russia has been upgraded from an upper-middle-income country to a high-income country.
“Economic activity in Russia was influenced by a large increase in military-related activity in 2023,” World Bank economists noted in their report.
Last year, Russians earned $14,250 per person on a gross national income basis. This upgrade aligns with reports from Russia suggesting that economic growth is primarily driven by wartime activities that generate demand for military goods and services, benefiting certain sectors in Russia’s wartime economy.
In 2023, Russia’s trade jumped by nearly 7%, while activities in the financial sector and construction grew by 6.6% and 3.6%, respectively. This boosted Russia’s real GDP — which is economic growth adjusted for inflation — by 3.6%.
Interestingly, this development has financially improved the lives of some poor Russians, complicating the calculus over how to end the war. Beyond Russia, the World Bank also upgraded Bulgaria and Palau from upper-middle-income to high-income countries. These upgrades followed several years of post-pandemic growth.
Biden should be ashamed of himself his policy has been a failure.
This is also something that Trump discussed during the debate. Biden never fires anyone.
Biden imposed sanctions, and the exact opposite happened, and not one policy adviser has been fired.
