It seems like every day, another so-called “conservative” is coming out against President Trump. The latest is John Bolton, who is trashing the former President and championing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as a potential candidate for the White House in 2024.

Bolton was always a controversial figure. He was a key architect of the Iraq War, which resulted in the deaths of over a million Iraqis and 4,500 American soldiers. He’s also a fervent supporter of regime change in Iran and North Korea. In other words, he’s a war hawk who is completely divorced from reality.

So it’s no surprise that he would eventually turn on Trump. Bolton has always been more interested in promoting his own agenda than following orders. He was fired by Trump because he refused to toe the line, and now he’s trying to make a quick buck by trashing Trump.

In a recent interview, Bolton went so far as to say that Trump “abandoned conservative principles” and that he would not vote for him if he ran for election again in 2024. He also said that he believes DeSantis is a “strong conservative” who would be a good candidate for the Republican nomination.

“[DeSantis has] had a very successful run as governor of Florida. He won re-election on Nov. 8 with a big majority. A lot of people look to him as the next generation candidate,” Bolton said in a recent interview with The Guardian. “That’s one of Trump’s biggest problems – his act is old and tired now.”

“There’s no doubt Trump’s endorsement in the primary can be very valuable to a candidate in the Republican party. But relying on that endorsement or trumpeting yourself as the Trump-endorsed candidate is poisonous in the general election. So if you actually want to win elections, Trump is not the answer,” Bolton said.

Bolton continued. “One question we asked was: do you want Trump or do you want a fresh face? I think in our last poll over 50% said they wanted a fresh face. That’s only going to continue. I personally don’t think Biden is going to end up running on the Democratic side and that’ll have an impact as well.”

“Even if they loved his style, loved his approach, loved his policies, loved everything about him, they don’t want to lose and the fear is, given the results on Nov. 8, that if he got the nomination, not only would he lose the general election, but he would take an awful lot of Republican candidates down with him,” Bolton told The Guardian.

Bolton’s remarks are just the latest in a string of attacks against Trump by so-called “conservatives.” It’s become increasingly clear that the Never Again Trump wing of the Republican Party has no intention of reconciling with the President Trump or his supporters. They would rather see the GOP lose elections than see Trump win again.

John Bolton is yet another Never Again Trumper who is more interested in getting revenge against President Trump than in winning elections. His comments championing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis show that he would rather see any other candidate win than see Trump prevail. Conservatives need to unite behind a strong leader like President Trump if they want to win in 2024.
