Trump Makes the Announcement That We’ve All Been Waiting For
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced that he will be running for president again in the 2024 election. This announcement comes as no surprise to many, as Trump has been hinting at a potential run for several months now.
In a statement released by the Trump campaign, the former president said, “My fellow citizens, America’s comeback starts right now. In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States.”
Trump said that he would “fight like no one has ever fought before” and claimed that he would stop Biden from winning re-election. “Our country could not take four more years,” he said. “They can only take so much.”
“I am running because I believe the world has not yet seen the true glory of what this nation can be,” he added. “We have not reached that pinnacle, believe it or not.”
It is still early in the presidential election cycle, but already a number of potential candidates have emerged as potential candidates. These include former Vice President Mike Pence, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, and Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
According to the Daily Wire,
One poll, commissioned by the Club For Growth, found that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had overtaken Trump 48% to 37% in Iowa, 52% to 37% in New Hampshire, 56% to 30% in Florida, and 55% to 35% in Georgia. Trump had previously led DeSantis in all of those states, as recently as just a few months ago, in that same poll.
A separate poll, conducted by CWS Research, found that DeSantis is now up over Trump in the state of Texas by 11 points. Last month, Trump led DeSantis by 17 points.
Trump’s announcement will likely shake up the race, as he remains a very polarizing figure. It is unclear at this point how much support Trump will be able to muster from within the Republican Party, as many party leaders have distanced themselves from him since he left office.
