The Battle Lines Are Drawn: Trump Vs. Democrats In All Out War
On Tuesday night, President Trump addressed the nation regarding border security.
President Trump took the opportunity to use his first-ever prime time address from the Oval Office to make his case for funding the border wall.
According to Fox News,
The speech — which was followed moments later by a rebuttal from Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — drew seemingly deep lines in the sand as Republicans and Democrats plan to meet Wednesday to continue negotiations to end the ongoing partial federal government shutdown over border wall funding, now in its third week. Trump has said the shutdown could last more than a year if no deal is reached.
Some thought that the President may have taken this time to declare a national emergency to secure the funding for the wall; I think that will come after his visit to the border if that route becomes necessary.
President Trump also paid homage to the fallen police officer just after Christmas, as well as many more recent victims of crime committed by illegal immigrants:
“America’s heart broke the day after Christmas when a young police officer in California was savagely murdered in cold blood by an illegal alien who just came across the border. The life of an American hero was stolen by someone who had no right to be in our country.”
“In California, an Air Force Veteran was raped, murdered and beaten to death with a hammer by an illegal alien with a long criminal history. In Georgia, an illegal alien was recently charged with murder for killing, beheading, and dismembering his neighbor. In Maryland, MS-13 gang members who arrived in the United States as unaccompanied minors were arrested and charged last year after viciously stabbing and beating a 16-year-old girl.
Over the last several years, I’ve met with dozens of families whose loved ones were stolen by illegal immigration. I’ve held the hands of the weeping mothers and embraced the grief-stricken fathers. So sad. So terrible. I will never forget the pain in their eyes, the tremble in their voices, or the sadness gripping their souls. How much more American blood must be shed before Congress does its job?”
Following the President’s address, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer felt they needed equal time to address the nation as well.
In their address, which looked much like a hostage video, they said there was a lot of misinformation, but didn’t say what it was. They never even rebutted the President’s claims. It was basically, “He’s lying, we have to use money wisely, this is a waste of money, let’s open the government then keep working on a solution.”
This is garbage and Chuck knows it. Democrats are NEVER going to make a deal
