SPECIAL REPORT: 7 of the Worst Political Predictions of 2022
As 2022 comes to a close, it’s always fun to look back on the year and see what wasn’t supposed to happen that did and what was supposed to but didn’t. It’s been a very interesting year and I’m sure that 2023 will be about the same except we’re going to have an official recession on our hands and the government will end up printing some more money to bail us out which will lead to a future recession again.
But it’s worth taking a look back and revisiting some of the worst political predictions that were made this year. From Sam Bankman-Fried’s “I don’t think I will be arrested” to President Joe Biden’s claim that inflation had “peaked,” here are seven of the worst political predictions of 2022.
Sam Bankman-Fried: “I Don’t Think I Will be Arrested”
On December 12th, Sam Bankman-Fried, the 30-year-old founder of FTX, predicted that he wouldn’t be arrested. Hours later, this prediction was proven wrong as U.S. prosecutors charged him with wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy, securities fraud, securities fraud conspiracy, and money laundering.
President Joe Biden on Inflation: “I Think It’s the Peak of the Crisis”
On December 10th, President Biden predicted that the inflation crisis had peaked and that things would get better from there. Unfortunately, this prediction was incorrect as the 7% rate that month surged for many months after, including to a staggering 9.1% in May 2022.
CNN Legal Analyst Joey Jackson: Federal Indictment of Trump “Imminent”
CNN Legal Analyst Joey Jackson predicted on August 10th that a federal indictment of Donald Trump was “imminent” following the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago. While an indictment is still possible, four months have passed and no indictment has yet occurred.
Jack Dorsey: Elon Musk and Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal “Will Be an Incredible Team”
Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey predicted that the world’s richest man and Twitter’s new CEO would work well together. Unfortunately, this prediction was proven wrong as Parag Agrawal was quickly fired after Musk took over the company in October.
Rebecca Kutler: CNN+ “Will Continue to Grow and Evolve”
Veteran CNN talent and development executive Rebecca Kutler predicted that CNN+ would be a thriving streaming-service for the the left-wing network. Kutler’s prediction was incorrect as CNN+ was cancelled just a few weeks later.
Mark Herrmann: “Ron DeSantis Will Lose His Race for Governor of Florida”
Attorney and blogger Mark Herrmann predicted in early January that Ron DeSantis would not win re-election. However, this prediction was proven wrong as DeSantis ended up winning in a massive blowout that has catapulted him to the top of the field of 2024 presidential contenders.
Nancy Pelosi: Democrats Will “Hold the House” and Win “More Seats”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi predicted in early October that Democrats would win more seats in the House of Representatives during the midterm elections. While Democrats did by most accounts outperform expectations, they did lose control of the House.
Conclusion
The predictions made in 2022 have been a lesson in humility for many political pundits. While some predictions did come true, many others were proven incorrect. It’s clear that even the most experienced political analysts can be wrong. Predicting the future of politics is an inexact science.
