The latest assault on our democratic process is unfolding right before our eyes. A coalition of six Republicans and unaffiliated Colorado voters, led by the former Colorado House and Senate Majority leader Norma Anderson and conservative columnist Krista Kafer, has filed a lawsuit to disqualify former President Trump from appearing on the state’s 2024 presidential ballot.

Their audacious argument? They claim that Trump violated Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which disqualifies individuals from holding federal office if they have “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the United States. Their evidence? The events of January 6, 2021, at the United States Capitol.

But let’s cut through the hogwash. This lawsuit is nothing more than a desperate attempt to silence the voice of millions of Americans who believe in Trump’s leadership. It’s a blatant attack on democracy, orchestrated by those who fear the return of a president who truly puts America first.

The plaintiffs’ argument is as flimsy as a house of cards. The lawsuit alleges that Trump’s actions were fueled by rаcism and whitе suprеmаcy, targeting cities with large Blаck populations. But anyone who followed Trump’s presidency knows that he worked tirelessly for all Americans, regardless of their race or ethnicity.

It’s worth noting that this is not the first attempt to bar Trump from the 2024 ballot. A previous lawsuit was dismissed due to lack of standing. Even Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes, who questioned Trump’s eligibility, admitted that he does not have the authority to bar Trump from the ballot.

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz got it right when he called any attempt to remove Trump from the ballot using the 14th Amendment absurd and against the intentions of the Constitution.

Charlie Kirk’s countermove suggestion is equally intriguing. If Trump can be removed from the ballot based on the 14th Amendment, then why not Joe Biden too? After all, isn’t it time we hold all politicians accountable for their actions?

Let’s not be fooled by this blatant political maneuvering. This lawsuit is nothing more than an attempt to silence the voice of the American people. We must stand against this assault on our democracy and fight for our right to choose our leaders.
