Actress Social Media Post Create Debate
Rachel Zegler, the star of Disney’s upcoming “Snow White” remake is back in the news.
Now, Zegler’s no stranger to controversy. The 23-year-old has been quite vocal about her progressive stances, which has sparked more than a few debates. Her statements in 2023 forced Disney to push the release of an upcoming movie back after backlash.
Zegler’s comments following the news she would play Snow White cause controversy in many some circles which had Disney delay the movie so hopefully things would cool down.
Well, Zeglers is back to promoting the much-anticipated “Snow White” film; she stirred the pot by jumping into the Israel-Palestine conflict. On August 12, just two days after dropping the film’s trailer, she tweeted, “And always remember, free Palestine.” This comment has caused quite a stir, especially considering her co-star Gal Gadot is Israeli. Although there’s no evidence of any tension between the two actresses, some Israeli publications have taken offense, interpreting Zegler’s words as a potential slight against Gadot.
Disney, already trying to steer clear of controversial topics after a series of PR disasters, probably didn’t appreciate this latest headline. The company has been trying to avoid any more “woke” controversies, which many believe have contributed to a drop in its stock price. Zegler herself had seemed to cool down after facing backlash for criticizing the original 1937 “Snow White” film, a classic beloved by generations.
But, of course, it didn’t stop there. In previous interviews, Zegler made waves by calling the original “Snow White” storyline “weird” and even labeled the Prince as a “stalker.” She proudly claimed that the remake would be more progressive, with her character not dreaming of true love or waiting for a prince to save her. This approach hasn’t sat well with everyone, with critics labeling her a “fake feminist” and accusing her of “gaslighting” audiences.
Disney’s decision to make the new *Snow White* more politically correct has also ruffled feathers. The original film’s beloved seven dwarfs were initially set to be replaced by “magical creatures,” which led to significant backlash. Disney even had to backtrack after initially denying that early photos from the set were authentic. The latest trailer shows these characters as CGI creations, further fueling the debate.
The new “Snow White” film, directed by Marc Webb, has already faced its share of drama and delays. It was originally set for release in March 2024 but has now been pushed to March 2025. With all the controversy surrounding Zegler and the film’s direction, it’s anyone’s guess how audiences will receive it.
