Republicans Waste No Time – ‘He Must Go’: GOP Rep Files Articles of Impeachment Against Mayorkas
Republicans control the House, so let the games begin! Republican Texas Representative Pat Fallon has introduced a resolution calling for the impeachment of United States Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas. The Republican congressman is accusing Mayorkas of failing to address the crisis that is unfolding at the United States’ southern border.
Fallon submitted his resolution to Congress on January 3rd, which was the first day of the 118th Congress. However, due to a drawn-out speakership race, it wasn’t until Monday night that the resolution was finally taken up. Talking about this matter, Fallon said that Mayorkas had “abdicated his duties” as head of DHS and should therefore be removed from his position. He further went on to add, “It is unfortunate that we have gotten to this point, but it is necessary. Secretary Mayorkas’s potential impeachment is not an accident. He has willfully abdicated his duties at Secretary of Homeland Security and actively mislead both Congress and the American people.”
The sentiment towards Mayorkas’s handling of illegal immigration in the United States has been echoed by other House Republicans, including Speaker Kevin McCarthy who threatened to impeach him over it. In response to inquiries from The Daily Caller, a DHS spokesperson issued a statement saying, “Secretary Mayorkas is proud to advance the noble mission of this Department, support its extraordinary workforce, and serve the American people.” They went on further to state that “Members of Congress can do better than pointing fingers at someone else. They should come to the table and work on solutions for our broken system and outdated laws which have not been updated in over 40 years.”
While Alejandro Mayorkas’s leadership over DHS has come under fire from members of both sides of government alike, thus far there have been no real movements towards actually impeaching him in either chamber of Congress. Despite this fact, Representative Pat Fallon believes firmly enough in his cause that he continues forward with proposing articles of impeachment against him. With increasingly hostile rhetoric being thrown around regarding border security in America today, only time will tell whether or not these articles will ever see any kind of vote – much less pass – within either chamber before being brought before President Biden himself for review and ultimate approval or rejection.
