REPORT: Senior House Democrats May Refuse To Certify The 2024 Election If Trump Wins
A recent report unveils a startling strategy brewing among a cadre of influential House Democrats: a potential refusal to certify the outcome of the 2024 election should former President Donald Trump clinch victory.
“While the Supreme Court has already rejected Colorado’s effort to remove Trump from the ballot,” the report reveals, “it is still considering the former president’s presidential immunity argument.” Trump’s legal team vehemently argues for the dismissal of both the documents and January 6 case, citing presidential immunity as grounds, a move that could profoundly reshape the presidency’s dynamics.
Jason Murray, a prominent leftist attorney involved in the Colorado ballot removal endeavor, has sounded the alarm, warning of the potential resurgence of the contentious debate over Trump’s eligibility when Congress convenes to certify the election results in January.
Amidst mounting anxieties within Democratic circles, there are fears of an impending “Constitutional crisis” should Trump secure victory in November without clear guidance from the Supreme Court. This uncertainty has prompted House Democrats to weigh the possibility of challenging the results and refusing to certify, a move that echoes criticisms leveled against Republicans, all while Trump finds himself entangled in legal battles.
According to the report, “senior House Democrats” are treading cautiously, indicating they would only certify a Trump victory contingent upon Supreme Court validation of his eligibility.
This stance presents a strategic opportunity for Democrats, especially as justices appeared hesitant to address the eligibility issue during recent oral arguments, leaving the matter in Congress’s hands.
“That would be a colossal disaster,” remarked U.S. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA). “We already had one horrendous January 6. We don’t need another.”
While some Democrats are prepared to certify the election if the Supreme Court unequivocally rules in Trump’s favor, others, such as Reps. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and Jim Clyburn (D-SC), remain reticent, despite their previous condemnation of Republican colleagues as “election deniers” and “insurrectionists.”
