2019 is now upon us and President Trump is ready to continue his progress with North Korea and their dictator, Kim Jong Un.

The two leaders first met back in June of 2018 which was a historic meeting. President Trump is the first sitting president to have a meeting with a North Korean leader.

From the time the two first met, Kim Jong Un has continued to urge the Trump administration to lift the sanctions that the United States has on North Korea.

According to One America News Network,

Kim maintained his willingness to meet with President Trump “at any time,” however, he said “if the U.S. miscalculates our people’s patience, forces something upon us, and pursues sanction and pressure without keeping a promise it made in front of the world” then the leader would “explore a new path in order to protect our [North Korea] sovereignty, and achieve peace on the Korean peninsula.”

Kim Jong Un has reiterated that he is very committed to denuclearization, but he’s adamant that the US must lift sanctions as was agreed upon during President Trump’s meeting with the leader.

A yearly New Years address is given by Kim Jong Un. This year’s address was particularly important as the dictator made clear what he expected from the United State and President Trump.

According to the BBC,

In this year’s speech, broadcast on state television early on Tuesday, Mr Kim said, “if the US does not keep its promise made in front of the whole world… and insists on sanctions and pressures on our republic, we may be left with no choice but to consider a new way to safeguard our sovereignty and interests”.

Fortunately, President Trump is ready, willing, and able to work with North Korea in establishing a long term relationship and helping North Korea become a normal nation.

The President tweeted Tuesday,

I think it’s safe to assume that we can expect another meeting to take place probably in the Spring or early Summer.
