The parents of Otto Warmbier have filed a lawsuit against the entire country of North Korea for torturing their son which ultimately led to his death.

The Warmbiers are seeking $1 Billion in punitive damages and another $46 Million for the family’s suffering. The lawsuit claims that North Korea violated international law by forcing Otto to falsely make a confession that he was committing an act of subversion on behalf of the U.S. government.

According to Cincinnati Enquirer,

The motion is part of a civil lawsuit brought in April against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, alleging the “rogue regime” took Otto Warmbier hostage “for its own wrongful ends and brutally tortured and murdered him.”

Otto Warmbier, 22 years old when he died, spent a year and a half imprisoned after North Korea accused him of committing a “hostile act” that threatened the “single-minded unity” of the country’s citizens. North Korean officials alleged he acted at the behest of a church in Ohio he didn’t attend as well as the CIA, the motion states.

Otto was a college student from Ohio who was on tour in North Korea when he allegedly stole a poster from a hotel. He was eventually arrested in January 2016 https://buycbdproducts.com held in captivity for a year and a half.

He was convicted of a “severe crime” and was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor after pleading for mercy.

After becoming worried about their son after not hearing from him, they began to worry. NBC News reported,

The bereaved parents told the court that they immediately became uneasy when they didn’t hear from Warmbier after his trip to North Korea, and then described tense months of silence afterward. When a plane finally brought Warmbier home, the family expected a joyous reunion based on North Korea’s claims that he was in good condition, claims that Fred Warmbier now calls “ridiculous.”

President Trump credits Otto’s death for being able to open up talks with North Korea and the U.S.

“Otto Warmbier is a very special person and he will be for a long time in my life. His parents are good friends of mine. I think without Otto, this would not have happened,” Trump told reporters at the time.

“We appreciate President Trump’s recent comments about our family,” the Warmbiers said in a statement. “We are proud of Otto and miss him. Hopefully, something positive can come from this.”
