OPINION: Texas School Shooting and My Bold Prediction of What’s to Come
Tragedy struck the state of Texas and has reverberated across the country. 21 people are dead, nearly all of them children, following a mass shooting that took place at an elementary school on Tuesday.
It breaks my heart to see this has happened and I do think that we need to do something to prevent this from ever happening again, I’m just saddened that it would come after this rather than before it.
I’m going to make a prediction here. I think that something is actually going to be done about gun laws this time. I think that Congress is really going to do something while people are feeling emotional about it, because this one is absolutely disgusting. What is the point of killing 18 elementary aged children?
I’m not quite sure what sort of legislation they will go after, but I would imagine that it’s going to be banning “assault rifles” and/or high-capacity magazines.
If you ask me, they’re going after the wrong thing. They should be doing something about mental health across the country and security at schools.
But honestly, the easiest and fastest way to actually stop school shootings and eliminate the risk of your or anyone else’s children being harmed is to never send them to public school again. I know I say that from time to time, and if you’re tired of hearing it I’m sorry, but prove me wrong.
The thing is that you never know when or where the next school shooting will take place. It may never happen in your town, or it might. It never happens in any particular town until it does. But if your children aren’t going to public school, they are at no risk of a mass school shooting. I know it’s hard and many people may not be able to do that right now without making some changes in their lives, but it is worth it.
