Obama Bails On Ocasio-Cortez, Says Green New Deal Is Too Expensive
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal has done nothing but fall flat on its face.
The idea is hands down the worst proposal devised by any member of Congress…well…maybe ever.
On Tuesday, the Senate forced a vote on whether or bring the Green New Deal to debate and not one single person voted in favor of it, not even the man who helped Ocasio-Cortez to write it!
Now she’s even lost the support of another Democrat, former President Barack Obama.
According to The Washington Post,
“He said we [as Democrats] shouldn’t be afraid of big, bold ideas — but also need to think in the nitty-gritty about how those big, bold ideas will work and how you pay for them,” said one person summarizing the former president’s remarks.
Obama’s words — rare advice from a leader who has shunned the spotlight since leaving office — come as the Democratic Party grapples with questions of how far left to lean in the run-up to 2020. Most Democratic candidates seeking the presidential nomination have embraced a single-payer health-care system and the Green New Deal, an ambitious plan to make the U.S. economy energy efficient in a decade.
While Obama didn’t mention the Green New Deal by name, it’s pretty clear that he’s referring to the $97 TRILLION plan from Ocasio-Cortez.
But why is it that nearly every 2020 Democratic presidential candidate has endorsed the Green New Deal? The answer is actually very simple. They are wanting to appeal to that younger generation of people who don’t know better who are supporters of Ocasio-Cortez.
In order to win the presidency, you’ve got to appeal to a wide range of people, including the younger generation. The Democratic candidates know that the younger uneducated generation loves Ocasio-Cortez, so they’re not going to buck against her and discourage that group from voting for them when it comes time for the primary.
Obama also went on to say that Republicans have gone too far right and touts John McCain for being someone who upheld “traditional GOP values”. We all know that McCain was a RINO. If someone like Obama is applauding any Republican, chances are that Republican is a RINO more in line with Democratic values.
