NFL Legend Sides with Tucker, Calls for Fox News Boycott
Former NFL quarterback Brett Favre took to social media on Monday to call for a boycott of Fox News after the recent termination of Tucker Carlson from the network. Favre, who is recognized for his conservative inclinations, showed his solidarity with Carlson and advised others to do the same in refraining from watching the network.
Favre was prompted to urge action after Megyn Kelly, a former host on Fox News, alleged on her podcast that the network was attempting to silence Carlson as part of their strategy to regain viewers. Kelly maintained that Fox News was counting on the loyalty of its audience to keep them engaged, despite any controversies that arose.
“You’re not going to go to digital media. You’re going to tune in to the Fox News primetime,” Kelly said.
“You black dogs. It’s what you always do. It’s how they have billions. That’s what’s happening here. Keep him silent on the sidelines for as long as possible, unable to use his voice on any of these things, on Fox, on politics, on anything. And we will win in the end, like we always do.”
Favre expressed agreement with Kelly by saying that Fox News should not silence Carlson and that viewers should take action by boycotting the network until they allow him to speak. He also advised his followers to seek information from alternative sources instead of automatically turning to Fox News. Favre’s tweet read, “I’m with Tucker. Time to boycott Fox until they come to their senses and let the man speak.”
Since Tucker’s departure, Kelly – a previous host at the network – has been very critical of Fox. Kelly recently reported that Fox experienced a significant decrease in its audience, including a 39% decline in viewership the 9 p.m. Hannity show and a 24% fall in the key demographic during the 10 p.m. hour. These lower ratings have mainly affected the network’s prime time programming, which is their primary revenue stream. Even the 11 p.m. hour saw a decrease in viewership.
