New York Governor Just Made It 10 Times Harder To Buy A Gun In His State
Incompetent New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo just signed a new bill into law on Monday that is going to make it much more difficult to purchase a firearm.
The new law changes the waiting period for doing a background check from 3 days to 30 days, a ten-fold increase in the wait time.
According to Fox News,
New York gun buyers will now have to wait 30 days for the background check.
Cuomo and Democratic lawmakers said the extended background check will give law enforcement the time it needs to complete a thorough investigation, Syracuse.com reported.
“Stronger background checks will help keep guns away from dangerous people,” said Sen Michael Ginaris, D-Queens, Senate sponsor of the bill.
Tom King, president of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, said the new law isn’t necessary. The three-day waiting period worked well, he said, and lawmakers extended for reasons that were largely political.
“This is just feel-good legislation,” he said. “This is something that the governor and the politicians are saying will make you safer. That’s hogwash.”
Cuomo also signed a bill which bans bump stocks. Your guess is just as good as mine when it comes to reasoning why he did this since there is already a federal bump stock ban.
One more bill he signed is one which now makes it illegal to manufacture, sell, transport or even possess 3D printed firearms. This bill actually becomes effective today, so if you own one, it is now illegal in New York state.
It seems that New York is on a path towards eventually making all guns illegal. They know they can’t do it in one swoop, so they make incremental changes to the gun laws to where eventually it just goes completely unnoticed…or so they think it will.
The new law is set to take effect in September, so if you’re a resident of New York, get them now while you still can.
