Brace yourselves, because this is going to be one of the wildest things that you’ve heard in a while.

A man was just convicted of killing his entire family which included his three children and even his dog. The man is going to spend the rest of his life in prison, but honestly, he deserves far worse.

The man, Anthony Todt initially claimed that he came home and found that his kids were dead and said that his wife did it. Then he claimed that he killed his wife at her request after she stabbed and drugged herself and even tried to kill himself through an attempted overdose on Benadryl and even hanging himself.

This wasn’t the truth though.

Todt killed them all. He stabbed and suffocated his two sons and smothered his young daughter before doing the same to his wife.

But here’s where things get strange.

This was all supposedly some part of a death pact because they believed that the apocalypse was coming and they wanted to escape it. They had even discussed this with the children before hand as well.

Todt told detectives that “everybody needed to die in order to pass over to the other side together because the apocalypse was coming.”

Occasionally, I’ll speak on religious and theological matters like this, but this is a clear reason why having a proper understanding of the end times is important. Just think about it, if this man actually understood what the bible says about the end times, then there would have been no reason for this to have happened.

I don’t know if these people claimed to be Christians or not, but I do know that there are millions of Christians in America today that believe that the “apocalypse” is upon us as well and that the end times is near.

As long as you don’t go crazy like this guy and try to escape the 7-year tribulation period through murder and suicide, I have no problem with people who want to hold to this theology, but I don’t believe that this is an accurate interpretation of the bible and especially the Book of Revelation.

I won’t get into any big details, but the things that I just want to point out to you is verses like the very first one in Revelation, “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place.”

2000 years later is not “soon”.

Look at the end of the book as well in Revelation 22:6-7, “And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place. And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.”

Again, notice the language of being soon.

Then down in verse 12, it says once again, “Behold, I am coming soon…” and once again in verse 20, “Surely I am coming soon.”

My point is simply this, maybe we’re misunderstanding what the Book of Revelation is about. Maybe it’s not just about the last days after all.
