Man Wins Lawsuit After Being Forced To Fake Being Gay To Keep His Job
A man in the U.K. recently won a lawsuit after he was forced into faking that he was gay just so his boss wouldn’t fire him from his job at a handbag store.
He said that the boss would only hire women or homosexual men so he was forced to pretend that he was gay.
As it turns out, this is sexual discrimination (duh) and he won £7,840 (approximately $10,000 American).
According to Daily Mail,
A ‘humiliated’ handbag shop worker forced to pretend to be gay to keep his job because his boss wouldn’t hire straight men has won almost £8,000 in damages, it was revealed today.
Daniel Hart, 31, was ordered to keep his real sexuality quiet or face the boot from a boutique in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear.
Daniel, who is bisexual, says he was ‘humiliated’ because he was told to lie to his boss at Amon, Linda Zhang, who only wanted to hire women and gay men, a tribunal heard.
Mr Hart said: ‘I was told to stay quiet because I’d be sacked if they found out. I had to keep pretending I was gay – even though I’m not. It was humiliating that I had to hide who I am just to keep a job.’
As it turns out, the assistant manager was also told not to hire “colored people” either because they are considered to be “lazy, smell, dirty b*****rds”.
Even though Hart won the lawsuit, he says to this day he still hasn’t received any money.
In reality though, what does being gay have to do with being able to sell handbags? If you know your products and can get the job done, then that should be the end of the story right there. This is nothing less than pure flat out racism, sexism, and sexual discrimination. I’d really like to know who the boss was.
