Man Kills Stepfather Over Dispute on the Bible
I’ve been a Christian for 18 years now and ever since that day I’ve been a pretty diligent student of what the Bible teaches and what opposing views there are to many of my own beliefs about the Bible.
Over the years, I’ve participated in many discussions and debates over a variety of topics, but never once has it ever gotten heated at all. Even when discussing things with atheists, I’ve never had a discussion get out of hand.
Sadly, I can’t say that this is true of everyone else. I’ve also witnessed many debates and discussions that have gone wildly out of control.
But one thing that I can say is that I’ve never witnessed any violence first hand from a debate or disagreement over a theological discussion. However, a couple of men apparently had such a disagreement over a talk surrounding the Bible that one of the men actually killed the other.
According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Department, deputies charged Jay Albert Stevens, 52, with first-degree murder and booked him into the Cochise County Jail after allegedly murdering a 61-year-old man at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Thursday.
The Daily Wire reported,
Authorities initially reported that Stevens “indicated that he did not have the address of where the incident occurred, but he was able to lead Deputies to a residence,” where they found a man deceased.
My Herald/Review Media later reported that Stevens eventually told sheriff’s investigators he shot his stepfather in the chest twice with a .40 caliber handgun because the victim accused him of never reading the Bible, among other reasons.
“I was gonna bury him, but I’m too lazy to dig a hole that big,” Stevens told authorities, adding he thought about chaining his stepfather’s body to his truck where he would “drag him out into the desert.”
Stevens also suggested that his stepfather was even brainwashing his mother.
Stevens told police that he and his stepfather had spent all day drinking beer and debating the Bible in the garage before he killed his stepfather. When his stepfather said that his lack of reading comprehension was due to laziness, things went from bad to worse.
Folks, don’t be this guy. Disagreements are not worth killing someone over and throwing your life away. I won’t give you the detail of how the murder took place, but it was vicious. This man may argue over the Bible, but it’s clear that he doesn’t understand it at all or he never would have done this.
