Man Dies After Freak Accident Involving Subway Turnstile in NYC
Sometimes people die of the most unexpected causes and it really catches up off guard.
Have you ever ridden on a subway? If you have, then you’ve likely been through a turnstile. These are the little barriers that make sure that people have paid their fare in order to board the train.
I know that when I was a kid I have jumped over a couple. It was mostly just for fun, but it is, in fact illegal.
But apparently, doing so can have some very serious consequences as one man found out the hard way.
A 28-year-old man who was trying to get a free ride on the subway in New York City decided that he would jump the turnstile in order to avoid the fare.
After multiple failed attempts, he finally started getting over, but he didn’t quite make it all the way. Instead, his foot seems to have got stuck and he came crashing down to the ground on the floor and suffered such a strong blow that it broke his neck leaving him dead on the scene.
According to the New York Post,
Christopher De La Cruz, 28, was pronounced dead following the incident at the Forest Hills-71st Avenue train station in Queens at about 6:45 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The sickening surveillance video shows De La Cruz trying to jump over a turnstile after he entered the subway station — but he initially falls and appears to drop his phone.
De La Cruz, who was wearing a backpack, then stumbles back briefly before repeatedly trying to hop over another turnstile.
On the final attempt, De La Cruz can be seen hoisting himself up — but losing his balance and flipping over the barrier.
So the next time that you are considering doing this, just pay the couple of dollars for the ride. It’s a small price to pay to preserve your life.
I’m not going to post the video here for fear of censorship from Big Tech (it happens to us), but if you do want to see the video, just go to Youtube and look up “Christopher De La Cruz subway” and you’ll be sure to find it without problem. But be warned it may be disturbing.
