Major US City Introduces Basic Income Program…to Homeless People
I am sympathetic toward homeless people. I know that some of them are their by their own choices, but there are some who are there because that’s the cards that they were dealth for some reason or another.
I try not to pass too much judgment on people because we really don’t know what sort of lives they have led.
Denver, Colorado has decided that they’re going to try and do something to fix the problem of homelessness in the city by introducing a basic income program in which they are going to give approximately 140 homeless people in the city up to $1,000 per month.
Here’s something that I’m curious about: who decides which homeless people get the money. Surely there are more than 140 or so homeless people in Denver.
Well, according to a report by The Epoch Times, it looks like they’re only going to be helping trans folk.
According to the news release, the cash will be given monthly to “140 women, transgender and gender non-confirming individuals, and families in shelters.” The release did not mention homeless men.
A release issued by the city said that the $2 million to fund the program was sourced from the American Rescue Plan Act, which was backed by President Joe Biden and Democrats. The plan, which totals nearly $2 trillion, was signed into law in March 2021.
“The program will be evaluated by University of Denver’s Center for Housing and Homelessness Research using a randomized control trial, which will measure housing outcomes, utilization of shelter and other homeless services, improvements in psychological health and substance use for those who opt-in,” said the news release.
Look, I’m all about helping homeless people, but the problem that I’ve seen is that when the government does it, it doesn’t actually help them because they don’t try to actually figure out the best ways of helping. If they would have done their research, they would know that giving homeless people money more often than not doesn’t help them get off of the streets. I just gives them money for drugs or puts them at risk as other homeless people will be looking to rob them.
Honestly, it’s more than just other homeless people who rob them. It’s worthless thugs in the city as well who are too lazy to go out and get a real job and work for a living.
