Madison Cawthorn May Have Just Ended His Career as a Politician
Recently, House Representative Madison Cawthorn made some seriously accusatory statements regarding other members of Congress.
The statements that he made were so extreme that Rep. Kevin McCarthy was called in to handle the situation.
During a podcast, Cawthorn stated,
“The sexual perversion that goes on in Washington. I mean, being kind of a young guy in Washington, where the average age is probably 60 or 70 – [you] look at all these people, a lot of them that I’ve looked up to through my life, I’ve always paid attention to politics.”
“Then all of a sudden you get invited: ‘We’re going to have a sexual get-together at one of our homes, you should come. What did you just ask me to come to? And then you realize they’re asking you to come to an 0rgy,” he added.
These are some serious accusations and immediately people were suspicious of them.
Well, after talking with Rep. McCarthy, Cawthorn has admitted that he may have embellished the facts just a little bit.
According to Axios,
McCarthy said Cawthorn conceded some of his remarks were untrue and “exaggerated.”
“I just told him he’s lost my trust, he’s gonna have to earn it back, and I laid out everything I find is unbecoming. And, you can’t just say, ‘You can’t do this again.’ I mean, he’s got a lot of members very upset,” McCarthy said. “In the interview, he claims he watched people do cocaine. Then when he comes in, he tells me, he says he thinks he saw maybe a staffer in a parking garage from 100 yards away.”
“It’s just frustrating. There’s no evidence behind his statements,” McCarthy continued. “And when I sit down with him … I told him you can’t make statements like that, as a member of Congress, that affects everybody else and the country as a whole.”
I don’t care one way or the other about Cawthorn. I just don’t know enough about the guy to have a judgment. However, I will say that I believe that he has ruined his hopes at winning another term. He’s going to be attacked at being a liar who falsely accused people of sexual promiscuity and drug use, and it’ll probably work against him whether it comes from someone challenging him in the primary or in the general election in November.
