An opinion piece written by Daniel Panneton, a contributor to The Atlantic, was recently published in which he asserted that the rosary has become associated with radicalism in recent years.

For those who may not quite be familiar with what a rosary is, it is a string of beads or knots that are typically used by Catholics during a recitation of a sequence of prayers.

Panneton asserted in his article titled “How the Rosary Became an Extremist Symbol” that “just as the AR-15 rifle has become a sacred object for Christian nationalists in general, the rosary has acquired a militaristic meaning for radical-traditional (or ‘rad trad’) Catholics.”

The first problem here is this strange idea that the AR-15 rifle has become associated with Christian nationalists. Where does this even come from?

Panneton claimed that “on this extremist fringe, rosary beads have been woven into a conspiratorial politics and absolutist gun culture. These armed radical traditionalists have taken up a spiritual notion that the rosary can be a weapon in the fight against evil and turned it into something dangerously literal.”

The author stated that “the rosary, in these hands, is anything but holy.”

This is merely the most recent example of the radical left’s unscrupulous attacks on Christian and Catholic beliefs and practices.

Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy said, “There is a long history of this. So the first thing that the Marxists, communists do is they attack religion they have to get rid of it. And by extension they want to get rid of family bond. It’s all because the family and religion are threats to the authoritarian state… Bishop Sheen said if you make it – outlaw believing in God then we should all stand up as criminals.”
