Lawsuit Against Fox News Dropped
Buckle up because we have a dramatic turn of events involving Hunter Biden and Fox News. Just hours after President Joe Biden announced he was withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race, his son, Hunter Biden, dropped his defamation lawsuit against the news network.
To give you some background, Hunter Biden filed this lawsuit on July 1, accusing Fox News of defamation. He claimed that the network published nude photos and videos of him without his consent in a fictional mock trial series titled “The Trial of Hunter Biden.” The lawsuit stated that Fox News targeted him to harass, alarm, and humiliate him, making false claims about his business ventures, drug abuse, alleged illegal activities, and foreign investments. Pretty serious accusations, right?
Hunter Biden argued that Fox News wasn’t just reporting on a newsworthy event but was commercializing his personality in a way that distorted the truth. He claimed the series was fictionalized and based on a nonexistent criminal case, yet it used actual emails and nonconsensual intimate images. This blend of fact and fiction, according to the lawsuit, made it impossible for viewers to distinguish reality from entertainment, which was highly damaging to his reputation.
Fox News, on the other hand, called the lawsuit “entirely politically motivated” and devoid of merit. They pointed out that Hunter Biden didn’t complain about the program until nearly two years after it aired. The program was removed shortly after Hunter’s complaint, but Fox maintained that as a public figure, Hunter Biden had been the subject of multiple investigations and is now a convicted felon. They emphasized their commitment to covering newsworthy events accurately, protected under the First Amendment.
Now, fast forward to Sunday – the same day President Biden stepped down as the Democratic party nominee – Hunter Biden’s lawyers filed court papers seeking to dismiss the lawsuit.
