Kevin McCarthy Goes Scorched Earth on AG Garland, ‘Clear Your Calendar’
The talk of the town is going to be about the FBI raid on President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate for the next week or two, and quite possibly longer.
There is a lot that could be said about what happened, but at the same time, there is not much that can be said because there are so many details that remain unknown about the event.
But one thing is for sure, the Republicans are livid about this, as they should be.
“I’ve seen enough,” McCarthy said in a statement “The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization. When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned.”
“Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar,” he added.

“There’s every reason to think that there’s a plus factor in the quantum and quantity of evidence that the government already had to support probable cause in this case, knowing that they would be besieged with criticism in some quarters that this is politically motivated,” said David Laufman, a former top official in the Justice Department’s national security division who prosecuted cases involving allegations of mishandling classified documents.
“If I were a senior department official who reviewed this prior to pulling the trigger on presenting an affidavit to a magistrate judge, I would’ve wanted a sufficient quality and quantity of evidence that was so pulverizing in its effect to simply neutralize any arguments to the contrary,” said Laufman, now a partner at the law firm Wiggin and Dana LLP.
Even shamed former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has called for the Department of Justice to explain and release the reasoning behind the raid in order to avoid having this viewed as a political attack.
