Is Nancy Pelosi Actually OPPOSED To Impeaching President Trump?
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made an announcement Monday that she is actually NOT in favor of impeaching President Trump.
This probably comes as a shock to all of us I’m sure given how much she hates the President.
Nancy Pelosi told Joe Heim from the Washington Post,
“I’m not for impeachment. This is news. I’m going to give you some news right now because I haven’t said this to any press person before.”
“Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.
It’s not someplace that I think we should go.”
ABC News reported,
House Democrats downplayed Pelosi’s comments Monday evening, insisting they are not a departure from the caucus’s stated intent to see where the investigations lead before committing to impeachment.
“I think you’re making something bigger than what it is,” House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings, D-Md., said. “Everybody knows impeachment has to be a bipartisan thing. I think the speaker sees that.”
The reasons I suppose it is so surprising as well is because it seems like every other Democrat is dead set on impeaching the President.
According to CNN,
The comments come days after House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler announced a sweeping investigation, sending letters to 81 people and entities — including the White House, the Justice Department, senior campaign officials, Trump Organization officials and the President’s sons — into possible corruption, obstruction of justice and abuses of power. Democrats say they’re conducting the rigorous oversight of the administration that Republicans refused to do the first two years of Trump’s presidency.
While Pelosi’s comments may help Democrats in competitive districts distance themselves from a divisive topic, they could frustrate some of those now in the middle of congressional investigations.
