After the violent attacks by Antifa last Saturday in Portland, the city is calling for action.

Police Chief Danielle Outlaw is calling for anti-mask laws that would make it illegal for people to have their faces covered.

“We cannot allow people to continue to use the guise of free speech to commit a crime. A lot of people are emboldened because they know they can’t be identified,” said Outlaw.

According to The Daily Wire,

At a press conference, Outlaw “called for laws that would bar masks worn by demonstrators, allow police to fully videotape protests and give authorities greater control of protests by groups with a history of violence,” according to Oregon Live. She stated, “We have to do something differently … There were entities that planned a brawl in the city of Portland and no one seems to be upset about that. … Entities came here for a fight. … I don’t even know what they were protesting against.’’

Outlaw dismissed accusations from Portland’s police union president that Mayor Ted Wheeler, who is also the city’s police commissioner, has “handcuffed’’ the police response to demonstrations.

Currently, about 15 other states and some countries already have anti-mask laws in place.

Fox News reported,

“We looked into it previously and the constitutional free speech issues are difficult to overcome, at least in Oregon, said Tim Crail, chief of staff for Portland Commissioner Amanda Fritz.

Outlaw said the issue was a matter of public safety. Portland has been the site of several violent demonstrations between Antifa supporters and conservative demonstrators in recent months.

Outlaw also said, “A lot of people are emboldened because they know they can’t be identified.”

She’s absolutely right. Just think of how bold people are nowadays just having a computer or a phone in front of them. They will say absolutely anything because there are usually no immediate repercussions. It’s a shame.
