Illegal Immigrants Demand Permanent Housing from Taxpayers
The influx of border crossers into New York City is an alarming sign for those who want to preserve the city’s way of life. Tens of thousands of illegal immigrants, who are transported from Texas by bus, have been allowed to stay at a luxury hotel in Hell’s Kitchen, paid for by taxpayers. Now, migrants are refusing to leave and demanding that the city cancel rent and give them permanent housing. Open Borders activists are even suggesting they take up residence in some of the most expensive properties without charge.
This kind of irresponsible policy takes away resources from working and middle class citizens who have already been struggling with exorbitant rent prices and skyrocketing home values, pushing many out of their hometowns and out of state.
These border crossers not only receive free housing, but increase competition for limited housing options across the entire city which drives up prices further. Immigration-driven population growth also has tremendous economic impacts. A 2017 study found that increased immigration into a metropolitan area is directly linked to higher rents and home prices within that metropolitan area as well as neighboring areas. What’s worse is that real estate investors are one of the main beneficiaries from this trend, making money off this humanitarian crisis while New Yorkers continue to struggle with unaffordable housing costs.
It’s not just New Yorkers who suffer either, this has countrywide implications as America’s population increases due to mass immigration and approaches 400 million soon in 2060. Unfortunately, many Republican lawmakers representing New York State have remained silent on these issues, failing their constituents who are desperate for solutions that don’t prioritize wealthy foreign nationals over their own citizens when it comes to access to housing.
Those who believe in preserving America’s way of life must oppose these actions taken by Mayor Eric Adams and other politicians allowing illegal immigrants unrestricted entry into our cities, towns, and villages. It only serves those looking to profit off this humanitarian crisis at the expense of hardworking Americans trying to make ends meet on wages increasingly stretched too thin due to rising cost of living expenses such as housing costs caused by influxes in immigration.
