House GOP Seek to Expel One of Their Own…It’s Not McCarthy!
House Republicans are reportedly preparing to expel their fellow party member, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), pending the results of an investigation from the House Ethics Committee. Gaetz, known for his unapologetic and bold demeanor, has found himself in hot water as he faces accusations of serious misconduct. It appears his colleagues have had enough. As one anonymous member told Fox News, “No one can stand him at this point… A smart guy without morals.”
But Gaetz isn’t going down without a fight. He’s planning to file a motion to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) this week, a move many top Republicans see as a personal vendetta due to the ongoing Ethics Committee investigation. This investigation was initiated during the last Congress when Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was Speaker.
The stakes are high for Gaetz. If the Ethics Committee report finds him guilty, his fellow Republicans are prepared to expel him from Congress. His actions have caused a rift within the party, with some members openly criticizing him for his lack of morals and integrity.
However, Gaetz isn’t entirely alone. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) came to his defense, stating it was “UNETHICAL to threaten to expel a member for following and using house rules that the ENTIRE conference agreed too.”
Despite the support from Luna, Gaetz’s actions last week may have sealed his fate. He sabotaged a short-term funding bill that would have kept the U.S. government open, which included a spending reduction, money for border security, and a commission on the growing federal debt. This move forced Republicans to cut a deal with Democrats, which left conservatives with little to celebrate.
Gaetz’s actions have drawn the ire of many prominent conservatives, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and conservative media personality Mark Levin. Gingrich questioned whether Gaetz was secretly working for the Democratic Party, while Levin accused him and others of sabotaging the conservative spending bill.
In the end, it’s clear that Gaetz’s actions have caused significant turmoil within his own party. His bold and defiant behavior, which once earned him a loyal following, may now be his downfall.
