Harris Sits Down For Another One-On-One Interview
Vice President Kamala Harris’s recent interview with NBC’s Hallie Jackson was a clear attempt to soften the blow from a rough earlier encounter with Bret Baier, but despite the softball nature of the questions, Harris still stumbled through the appearance. Jackson’s framing was a weak effort to cover up the fact that Harris has, in the past, supported what is effectively the abolition of ICE. When Jackson said Harris “stopped short” of calling for ICE’s abolition, she neglected to acknowledge that Harris’s idea of “starting from scratch” with the agency is just another way of tearing it down and rebuilding it—which is, by definition, abolishment.
This is embarrassing. NBC’s @HallieJackson plays word games on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with Kamala Harris, arguing she never actually wanted to abolish it, but just start “from stratch” pic.twitter.com/uOrfQlY2h7

Harris’s attempts to deflect accountability for the ongoing border crisis by blaming Congress also fell flat. The Biden administration’s reversal of Trump-era immigration policies that were working to manage illegal immigration is a choice Harris owns, yet she continues to shift the blame. This repetitive talking point, aimed at diverting attention from the failures of the administration, isn’t convincing anyone outside of the far-left base.
Kamala: “I was just with one of the opinion leaders in the Republican Party, Liz Cheney.”

And then came the real head-scratcher: Harris touting Liz Cheney as a Republican “opinion leader.” Anyone paying attention knows that Cheney’s credibility within the GOP has tanked, especially after her impeachment crusade against Trump. Her support holds no sway with Republicans or independents, and bringing her up only alienates Arab-Americans and other groups that Harris needs to court in key swing states.
Wow.

On the issue of abortion, Harris took an uncompromising stance, refusing to consider religious exemptions for healthcare providers. Her position that “no concessions” should be made and that the fundamental right to an abortion trumps religious liberty is a sharp dividing line between the Democratic and Republican parties. It’s a particularly extreme position that will likely alienate moderates and religious voters.
WATCH: Kamala Harris again refuses to answer whether she ever witnessed President Biden in cognitive decline:
Jackson: “I know that Joe Biden is not on the ballot and I understand that. But the reason that you are on the top of the ticket is because he dropped out of this race.… pic.twitter.com/rgYvnkCzZf

Finally, Harris’s refusal to engage in “hypotheticals” is a tired and evasive tactic. The whole point of being a candidate is to articulate what you would do if you were elected. Harris’s inability to answer basic questions and offer concrete plans makes her campaign look even weaker.
