On Wednesday, in a shocking display of Trump Derangement Syndrome, a man set himself on fire near the White House.

The fire occurred near the Ellipse park on 15th street and Constitution Avenue at an area known as President’s Park South. The space is used an official event location and features various prominent monuments.

The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

According to Fox News,

A man lit himself on fire in a park outside the White House on Wednesday, prompting a large emergency response, officials said.

The Secret Service tweeted the incident happened around 12:20 p.m. on The Ellipse, near 15th Street and Constitution Avenue south of the White House.

“At approximately 12:20 p.m. a man lit himself on fire on the Ellipse near 15th and Constitution Ave., Secret Service personnel are on scene assisting @NatlParkService and @usparkpolicepio in rendering first aid,” the agency wrote.

A man who said his daughter witnessed the incident said the person had been running through the park before setting himself ablaze.

“Police and rescue have responded,” Krisjan Berzins tweeted. “They’re closing all surrounding streets right now.”

Sgt. Eduardo Delgado who is a spokesman for the Park Police, said investigators still do not know the man’s motive at the time (other than just being a lunatic). Graphic videos on social media showed Gupta walking across the Ellipse engulfed in flames until first responders arrived to the scene.

The man, later identified as Arnav Gupta from Bethesda, MD was admitted to the hospital with “life-threatening injuries later died of his injuries according to police.

In my opinion, this sure isn’t the best way to get your point across. And now his family has to live with that video as the last time they will ever have seen him alive.
