EXPOSED: The Biggest Hamas Tunnel Ever Discovered in Gaza
In a significant development, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recently made an announcement regarding the discovery of the largest Hamas tunnel ever found inside Gaza. This underground network, built with reinforced concrete, stretches over four kilometers (2.5 miles) and is equipped with various amenities like electricity, ventilation, sewage systems, communication networks, and even rails. The tunnel, spearheaded by Muhammad Sinwar, the brother of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, was strategically positioned just 400 meters (1,310 feet) away from the Erez Humanitarian Crossing.
The Erez Humanitarian Crossing, managed by COGAT’s Coordination and Liaison Administration (CLA) until October 6, played a vital role in facilitating the movement of thousands of Palestinians into Israel. It allowed them to access employment opportunities and receive essential medical treatment. However, the proximity of the newly discovered Hamas tunnel to this crossing raises serious concerns about the security and safety of both Israelis and Palestinians.
The sheer magnitude of the Hamas tunnel system is alarming. Its width suggests that it was intended to accommodate the movement of vehicles, potentially enabling large numbers of armed terrorists to approach the Erez crossing undetected. This revelation highlights Hamas’s continued investment of substantial resources into building tunnels for the sole purpose of attacking Israeli civilians. The IDF’s Lt. Col. Richard Hecht emphasized that these tunnels prioritize aggression over the well-being of the people in Gaza.
The IDF released compelling video footage, recorded by Hamas terrorists during the tunnel’s construction, which was later obtained by Israel. This footage vividly illustrates the immense effort and resources invested by Hamas in building these subterranean networks. It provides a rare glimpse into the extensive tunnel system that poses a significant threat to the security of the region.
