Disney Revamps Animatronic Attraction
Disney World has made a significant change to one of its long-standing attractions by removing a beloved character that has been part of the park for over 50 years. Liver Lips McGrowl, one of the 18 animatronic bears from the “Country Bear Jamboree” at Magic Kingdom, will not be returning when the attraction reopens on Wednesday after a seven-month renovation. This decision comes as part of Disney’s ongoing effort to kill comedy and not offend anyone.
The character of Liver Lips McGrowl has been deemed “insensitive and outdated,” particularly concerning issues related to alcohol abuse and derogatory stereotypes. The term “liver lips” is associated with liver damage caused by alcohol abuse so Disney decided it needed to go.
Replacing Liver Lips McGrowl in the Country Bear Jamboree will be Romeo, who joins other characters such as Harry, Big Al, Wendell, and Teddi Barra. The attraction, known for its humorous and musical performances inside Grizzly Hall, will reopen under a new name: “Country Bear Musical Jamboree.” The revamped show will feature a new script and soundtrack to provide a refreshed experience for guests.
During Liver Lips McGrowl’s tenure from 1971 to January 2024, the character was credited with performing the song “My Woman Ain’t Pretty (But She Don’t Swear None).” On January 26, 2024, a Reddit user captured a video of Liver Lips McGrowl’s final performance before the attraction closed for renovations. The show was reportedly packed with fans who came to bid farewell to the iconic character and enjoyed a memorable final performance.
The new version of the show will feature a soundtrack produced and arranged by country singer-songwriter Mac McNally, known for his work with Jimmy Buffett. The updated score will include country versions of Disney classics such as “Bear Necessities” from “The Jungle Book” and “Fixer-Upper” from “Frozen.” Additionally, the new soundtrack will feature an original song, “Country Bear Musical Jamboree,” as well as country renditions of songs from “The Little Mermaid,” “Mary Poppins,” and “Aladdin.”
