Hey folks, let’s dive into the latest twist in the political landscape: Former President Donald Trump is shaking things up again with a massive rally in one of New York City’s most Democratic strongholds—Crotona Park in the Bronx. And when I say massive, I mean massive. His campaign estimated a whopping 25,000 supporters showed up, far exceeding the expected 3,500. Even outside the park, people were lining up just to get a glimpse of him.

Trump’s speech was classic Trump: full of passion, promises, and sharp criticism of the current administration. He started by reminiscing about New York City’s glorious past but quickly turned to its current issues, like violent crime on subways and the rise in homeless encampments. He didn’t hold back on President Biden either, calling him “grossly incompetent” and accusing him of failing the people of the Bronx.

One of the standout moments before Trump even took the stage was a powerful grassroots speech from a local woman who declared, “Keep your welfare; we DON’T want your welfare; we want jobs.” Her words resonated deeply with the crowd, setting the stage for  the former president.

Trump’s main message? He’s the only one who can save New York City. “If a New Yorker can’t save this city, no one can,” he proclaimed, earning loud cheers. He pledged to work with Democratic leaders like Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams to revitalize the city and state, promising initiatives like renovating the subway system, cleaning up parks, and tackling homelessness and mental health issues.

During his speech, Trump also took a swipe at the national economic situation under Biden, highlighting how Black and Hispanic families are feeling the pinch of issues like energy prices and inflation. His familiar themes of energy independence, combating inflation, and addressing foreign policy weaknesses were front and center.

Even CNN’s Kristen Holmes was taken aback by the level of support Trump garnered in such a traditionally Democratic area. She pointed out the diversity of the crowd, with attendees from the Bronx and beyond, including states like Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Holmes noted that while some locals were opposed to Trump’s presence, others who had supported Biden were now reconsidering, feeling let down by the current administration.

Trump’s decision to hold a rally in the Bronx, a borough known for its racial diversity and strong Democratic leanings, wasn’t without controversy. Governor Hochul dismissed Trump’s supporters as “clowns,” and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez even hoped bad weather would disrupt the event. But the weather held, and the rally went on without a hitch.
