In a stunning move that raises serious questions about the integrity of the Democratic Party, the DNC announced on Thursday that there will be no presidential debates for the 2024 election cycle. The decision effectively shields Joe Biden from facing any challenge from within his own party, despite his dismal approval ratings and growing discontent among progressive voters.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Biden is expected to announce his re-election campaign by video next week, without having to face any scrutiny from his potential rivals. The only two candidates who have declared their intention to run against Biden are Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vocal critic of vaccine mandates and corporate influence in politics, and Marianne Williamson, a spiritual author and former presidential hopeful.

Both Kennedy and Williamson have denounced the DNC’s decision as undemocratic and unfair, accusing the party establishment of protecting Biden from accountability and silencing dissenting voices. Kennedy, who has the support of 14% of voters who backed Biden in 2020, according to a USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll, said in a statement that the DNC was “afraid of a free and open debate” and that he would not give up his fight for “a new kind of politics that puts people before profits.”

Williamson, who has 5% support among Biden’s 2020 voters, said on Twitter that the DNC was “betraying the American people” and that she would continue to campaign for “a politics of love and compassion.” She also called on Biden to “have some courage” and agree to debate his challengers.

The DNC’s decision also drew criticism from some Republican leaders, who accused the Democrats of being hypocritical and cowardly. The RNC had voted last year to withdraw from the Commission on Presidential Debates events, citing bias and unfairness in the selection of moderators and topics. However, the RNC said it would still hold its own primary debates among Republican candidates, unlike the DNC.
