DC Archbishop Rips Biden, Calls Him A ‘Cafeteria Catholic’
DC Archbishop Wilton Gregory didn’t mince words when he labeled President Biden a “cafeteria Catholic” during a recent interview on CBS. Gregory pointedly criticized Biden’s selective adherence to Catholic teachings, stating, “Like a number of Catholics, he picks and chooses dimensions of the faith to highlight while ignoring or even contradicting other parts.”
This stinging rebuke comes amidst growing backlash over the Biden administration’s decision to declare March 31 as the “Transgender Day of Visibility,” a move condemned by many as an affront to Christian values.
Critics argue that Biden’s support for abortion access and same-sex marriage conflicts with traditional Catholic teachings. The Catholic Church officially opposes abortion and views marriage as a sacrament between one man and one woman. Biden’s political positions on these issues have led to accusations of him being a “fake” Catholic by many within the Church.
The controversy escalated when the Biden administration prohibited children from submitting “religious themed” Easter egg designs for the 2024 “Celebrating National Guard Families” art event at the White House on Easter. The event, part of the White House’s Easter traditions, faced criticism for its exclusion of religious symbols and themes.
Karoline Leavitt, National Press Secretary for Trump, demanded an apology from the Biden administration, stating, “It is appalling and insulting that Joe Biden’s White House prohibited children from submitting religious egg designs for their Easter Art Event, and formally proclaimed Easter Sunday as ‘Trans Day of Visibility’.”
The administration’s focus on secular themes like “EGGucation” for the annual Easter egg roll further fueled criticism. Despite these controversies, the White House defended its decisions, emphasizing inclusivity and diversity in its events.
As the debate rages on, President Biden finds himself caught in the crossfire between critics accusing him of straying from Catholic doctrine and defenders championing his commitment to progressive values. The clash between religious beliefs and political ideologies shows no signs of abating, leaving Biden to navigate a contentious terrain fraught with challenges.
