Cult Leader Accused of Having 20 Wives, Most Under 15 Years Old — But That’s Not the Worst Part!
There are sick people in the world. It seems like every other day, another man is being accused of preying on young girls in the name of religion, many of whom are being rightly accused.
The latest is 46-year-old Samuel Rappylee Bateman, who is accused of marrying more than 20 women and girls — the youngest of whom was just nine years old. Bateman was the leader of a small sect of Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints that embraced polygamy.

Bateman is just one in a long line of men who have been accused of preying on young girls in the name of religion. In 2017, Warren Jeffs, the former leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, was sentenced to life plus 20 years for sexually assaulting two underaged girls who he took as “brides.” Jeffs was already serving a life sentence for his convictions in Utah.
