House Passes Resolution
On July 25, the House of Representatives, driven by the GOP, endorsed a resolution. The focus? A bipartisan disapproval of Vice President Kamala Harris and the Biden administration for their perceived inability to control illegal immigration.
One might assume this to be an exclusively Republican initiative. However, Democrats chose to cross party lines and vote in favor along with the 214 Republicans. The Democrats who took this unexpected step are Reps. Yadira Caraveo of Colorado, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Don Davis of North Carolina, Jared Golden of Maine, Mary Peltola of Alaska, and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington.
To provide some context, this resolution was initially introduced on Tuesday by Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, the leader of the House GOP Conference. The trigger? President Joe Biden terminated his re-election campaign and endorsed Harris as his successor.
The resolution, vehemently criticizes the Biden administration and Kamala Harris, labeling her as the Border Czar, for failing to protect the U.S. border. But it doesn’t end there. The resolution emphasizes that the American citizens deserve elected representatives who comprehend the severity of the border crisis and are willing to implement necessary measures to rectify it.
It’s worth recalling that Harris was made responsible for managing the administration’s efforts to reduce migration to the southern U.S. border in March 2021 despite the fact that the media attempting to alter reports.
However, Stefanik’s resolution alleges that Biden and Harris have exacerbated the border crisis with their progressive open border policies. The resolution also directly holds them accountable for terminating the “Remain in Mexico” program in August 2022.
Stefanik commented on the passage of her resolution: “Today my resolution condemning Kamala Harris for her role as Joe Biden’s open border czar passed the House… Harris and every elected Democrat owns this historic border crisis…”
The six Democrats who supported the GOP on this resolution have previously endorsed other Republican resolutions criticizing the Biden administration’s border policies, as immigration proves to be a key issue this election year.
On the flip side, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries denounced Stefanik’s resolution as “fake and fraudulent.”
