Imperioli Discusses What He Wanted Cast To Do Before Scene
Michael Imperioli, recognized for his role as Christopher Moltisanti in the esteemed TV series “The Sopranos,” made an intriguing revelation this past Sunday during an interview. As the director of the revived 1882 Ibsen classic “An Enemy of the People,” Imperioli divulged that he had his cast watch video clips from the January 6th riot to prepare for a scene in the play.
The actor-director drew parallels between the violent scenes depicted in the play and the events that occurred at the Capitol earlier this year. “We looked at, during rehearsal, videos from January 6th,” Imperioli shared. He elaborated, “I mean, the violence that happens in our play, we made a direct parallel to what happened. Because there’s misinformation, and there’s a manipulation of, ‘Listen. People attacked the Capitol based on absolute lies.’ That was confirmed by pretty much every judge and expert and everybody, lies and lust for power. And people were hurt, and people died as a result of that.”
When asked why he thought it was necessary to reference January 6th, Imperioli responded, “It’s just something we were talking about, how quickly these – because it starts with words and ideas, that scene. And how quickly it turns into violence.”
Notably, Imperioli was unfazed when his play was interrupted by protestors advocating for climate change. He didn’t find their interruption offensive, but rather constructive. “I wasn’t offended. I wasn’t, ‘How dare they interrupt my play?’” he said. “I think they did it in a constructive, respectful way.”

In a clip shared in April, Imperioli can be seen discussing how the January 6th footage was used in preparing for a scene in “An Enemy of the People.” He emphasized, “It’s just something we were talking about … because it starts with words and ideas, that scene. And how quickly it turns into violence.”
It’s funny he used 1/6 of the footage but not footage from the George Flyod riots. Give me a break.
