Adam Schiff Just Got His A– Handed to Him!
On Wednesday, the House of Representatives voted to censure Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif. The reason was that he made claims about President Trump’s 2016 campaign colluding with Russia. This vote made Schiff the third member to be censured in the House since the turn of the century. The censure resolution passed with a 213-209 vote. All Republicans voted for it except six who voted “present,” and all Democrats voted against it.
After the vote, Democrats shouted “Shame!” and “Disgrace!” while House Speaker Kevin McCarthy tried to regain control of the House for several minutes. Representative Ilhan Omar was heard calling McCarthy a “spiteful coward” and accusing him of having “weak leadership.”
This was the second attempt by the House to pass a resolution censuring Schiff, initiated by Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican from Florida. The previous resolution failed last week because it proposed a fine of $16 million against Schiff, which both Democrats and 20 Republicans opposed.
The resolution was able to pass on a party-line vote after the removal of certain language. Luna stated that the vote was necessary to counter Schiff’s accusations of Trump’s alleged dishonesty.
“As chair of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff launched an all-out political campaign built on baseless distortions against a sitting U.S. president, at the expense of every single citizen in this country and the honor of the House of Representatives,” Luna said before the vote. “With access to sensitive information unavailable to most members of Congress and certainly not accessible to the American people, Schiff abused his privileges, claiming to know the truth while leaving Americans in the dark about his web of lies… lies so severe that they altered the course of the country forever.”

Schiff defended himself on the House floor and expressed gratitude towards the Republicans for reintroducing the resolution.
“To my Republican colleagues who introduced this resolution, I thank you. You honor me with your enmity, you flatter me with this falsehood,” Schiff said.
“You, who are the authors of a big lie about the last election, must condemn the truth tellers,” he said. “And I stand proudly before you. Your words tell me that I have been effective in the defense of our democracy, and I am grateful.”
Schiff led the first impeachment of Trump due to his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where he tried to use military aid to pressure him to investigate current President Biden. Democrats attempted to stop the resolution to censure Schiff, but it failed in a party-line vote of 218-208. Nancy Pelosi criticized Republicans for enabling Trump’s wishes and said they appeared unhappy.
“The other side has turned this chamber where slavery was abolished, where Medicare and Social Security and everything were instituted, they’ve turned it into a puppet show,” Pelosi said. “And you know what? The puppeteer, Donald Trump, is shining a light on the strings. You look miserable. You look miserable… you’re wasting time.”
In this Congress, House Republicans have previously targeted Schiff, and the vote is not the first instance. Earlier this year, Schiff was removed from the Intelligence Committee by McCarthy for making unproven claims about collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia.
