The US Office of Special Counsel said that Kellyanne Conway has erred by “disparaging Democratic presidential candidates while speaking in her official capacity during tv interviews as well as on social media.

The Office is, therefore, recommending that Conway be fired from her position for these apparent violations.

The letter states, “Ms. Conway’s violations, if left unpunished, would send a message to all federal employees that they need not abide by the Hatch Act’s restrictions. Her actions thus erode the principal foundation of our democratic system — the rule of law,” the letter said.

“If Ms. Conway were any other federal employee, her multiple violations of the law would almost certainly result in her removal from her federal position,” Kerner’s letter said. “Never has (the office) had to issue multiple reports to the President concerning Hatch Act violations by the same individual.”

A separate statement from the Office of the Special Counsel, issued alongside the report, said that “given that Ms. Conway is a repeat offender and has shown disregard for the law, (the office) recommends that she be removed from federal service.” (CNN)

During an interview with Fox & Friends Friday morning, President Trump was asked whether or not he was going to fire Kellyanne Conway for her supposed violations of the Hatch Act.

President Trump replied, “I’m not gonna fire her. I think she’s a terrific person. She’s a tremendous spokesperson.”

The Hatch Act limits certain political activities of federal employees. In an explosive report released a day earlier, the Office of Special Counsel (which is separate from the office with a similar name previously run by Robert Mueller) cited Conway for repeatedly violating the law with political statements about Democratic presidential candidates in media interviews and on Twitter.

Trump, though, said: “It looks to me like they’re trying to take away her right of free speech.”

He even suggested he would not counsel Conway to tone it down.

“It doesn’t work that way,” Trump said, arguing that Conway was merely responding to political attacks against him. “A person wouldn’t be able to express themselves, and I just don’t see it.”

Trump noted that he will be getting a briefing on the findings.
