Jussie Smollet is finally getting what he deserves.

On Thursday, Smollett appeared in court on felony charges for filing a false police report.

Now he’s blaming the mayoral race currently going on in Chicago for how “unfair” he’s been treated by the Chicago Police Department.

Smollett’s legal team has released a statement about the current situation:

“Today we witnessed an organized law enforcement spectacle that has no place in the American legal system. The presumption of innocence, a bedrock in the search for justice, was trampled upon at the expense of Mr. Smollett and notably, on the eve of a Mayoral election. Mr. Smollett is a young man of impeccable character and integrity who fiercely and solemnly maintains his innocence and feels betrayed by a system that apparently wants to skip due process and proceed directly to sentencing.”

In a statement given by Eddie Johnson who is the superintendent of the Chicago Police Department, he stated, “‘Empire’ actor Jussie took advantage of the pain and racism to promote his own career. I am left hanging my head and asking why? Why would anyone, especially an African-American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations?”

The judge over the case set Smollett’s bond at $100,000. But he must have been released because he was on set for filming for “Empire”.

From what we understand, Fox (Empire’s network) has yet to decide what to do about Smollett. I would assume that since filming is near complete for the fifth season of the show, they’ll wait and see how the court case plays out before making a decision on what to do. After all, you’ve got to be careful about what you do nowadays with a gay black man and firing them. All they have to do is accuse you of doing it for the wrong reasons and you’re done for.

This probably isn’t the best tactic to use if you’re wanting to get off easily on a matter like this. When you show no real remorse for your actions, it shows and don’t think the judge won’t notice.
