Fetterman Answers Questions About Social Media Post During CNN Interview
On Sunday, tensions escalated between Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York. The conflict started after Fetterman compared the House of Representatives to “The Jerry Springer Show.” This comment followed a heated exchange between Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican from Georgia, and Ocasio-Cortez during a House Oversight Committee hearing on Thursday night.
In an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, Fetterman defended his comparison. He said he was merely responding to the chaotic events that took place during the committee hearing. Fetterman emphasized that everyone on the committee has the right to their own opinion about what happened.
Ocasio-Cortez lost it over Fetterman’s remarks, accusing him of being a bully for making such a comparison. She also expressed her disappointment that Fetterman did not speak out against what she called racist and misogynistic remarks made by Greene toward Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas.
I understand you likely would not have stood up for your colleague and seem to be confused about racism and misogyny being a “both sides” issue.
But I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one.
And to the women of Pennsylvania: I’d stand up for you too.
Enjoy your Friday. https://t.co/cInF4YXO2y

It’s like all of congress is a back in middle school.
The House Oversight Committee had convened to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for not complying with a subpoena related to an audio recording of President Biden’s interview with a special counsel. However, the hearing quickly descended into chaos. Less than an hour in, Greene began attacking her Democratic colleague, Crockett. Crockett snarkily asked Greene if she understood the purpose of the hearing. In response, Greene made comments about Crockett’s appearance, prompting Ocasio-Cortez to step because she can’t help but open her big mouth.
Committee Chairman James Comer tried to restore order as members in the chamber expressed their disapproval and things went off the rails.
