Big Lawsuit Filed In Fulton County
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis finds herself entangled in a new legal dispute that has attracted significant attention, with Georgia legislator Representative Mesha Mainor at the forefront.
In a lawsuit filed by Mainor, named defendants include Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, Commissioner Marvin Arrington, the Fulton County Ethics Board, and the county itself. The heart of the matter revolves around Mainor’s allegations of mishandling a criminal case where she was the victim of repeated stalking by a former friend and political associate.
Mainor, elected in 2020 to represent House District 56 in Atlanta, made waves last year by switching parties, transitioning from Democrat to Republican, citing discomfort with what she perceived as “left-wing radicalism” among Democrats.
Regarding the stalking incident, Mainor hired Corwin Monson as a campaign volunteer in January 2019. However, their professional relationship soured swiftly, leading to Monson’s dismissal after a month due to what Mainor describes as disruptive behavior. Mainor alleges that Monson began stalking her, appearing uninvited at her events, loitering outside her residence, and even proposing to her in front of her children.
Due to the behavior legal action was taken by Mainor, resulting in a Temporary Protective Order against Monson by August 2019. Despite this, Monson faced multiple arrests for violating the order and was eventually indicted for aggravated stalking.
However, Mainor alleges that Commissioner Arrington, serving as Monson’s attorney, inappropriately influenced the case’s outcome, bending DA office policies to secure favorable plea deals for Monson. She further asserts that DA Willis was unduly swayed by Arrington’s influence.
Willis, known for her involvement in high-profile cases such as indicting former President Donald Trump, assumed oversight of the Monson case in January 2021. Mainor criticizes Willis’s handling of the case, particularly her purported lack of transparency regarding a plea deal that was milder than anticipated.
The Fulton County Ethics Board became involved after Mainor filed a complaint against Arrington, although the details of the board’s decision to close the complaint in March 2021 remain undisclosed.
Monson’s release from prison in November 2021 allegedly led to renewed stalking behaviors directed at Mainor, as detailed in the lawsuit.
Representative Mainor seeks damages for emotional distress, humiliation, and a perceived diminishment in quality of life stemming from the ongoing ordeal.
