Republican Representative Nancy Mace, a prominent survivor of sexual assault, has sparked controversy by endorsing Donald Trump for president, unveiling what some see as glaring hypocrisy. Mace, who has courageously shared her traumatic experience of assault at 16, publicly declared her support for Trump on Monday, stating, “I don’t see eye to eye perfectly with any candidate.

And until now I’ve stayed out of it. But the time has come to unite behind our nominee.” She added, “To be honest, it’s been a complete shit show since he left the White House. Donald Trump’s record in his first term should tell every American how vital it is he be returned to office.”

Mace’s endorsement, especially given her history as a sexual assault survivor, has raised eyebrows. Despite her past advocacy for survivors and calls for more moderate Republican positions, Mace appears to dismiss her own warnings about Trump, who she criticized in the aftermath of the January 6 insurrection, saying his actions “wiped out” Republican accomplishments.

Even with Trump currently facing legal challenges and a trial for defamation related to sexual assault accusations by writer E. Jean Carroll, Mace remains resolute in her endorsement. The judge in the case emphasized that, by common definition, Trump can be considered a rapist.

This steadfast support from Mace, who previously urged the GOP to adopt more moderate stances, marks a significant departure from her earlier critiques of Trump’s impact on the party.

Mace’s decision comes amid the ongoing GOP 2024 presidential primary, where former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is another contender. Despite Trump endorsing Mace’s primary opponent and publicly denouncing her as an “absolutely terrible candidate,” “crazy,” and a “terrible person,” Mace aligns herself with the party’s ideology over her previously proclaimed ideals.
