NYC Mayor Adams Threatens Action for Sending Migrants to His ‘Sanctuary City’
Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams has decided to play hardball with buses transporting migrants into his sanctuary city. In a move that reeks of irony, he’s threatening to impound these migrant buses and impose fines up to $3,000. Now, I’m not sure if you’ve been keeping score, but New York City is a sanctuary city. That means it’s supposed to be a haven for undocumented immigrants, right? But apparently, only when it’s convenient for Mayor Adams.
Adams’ tough talk comes in response to Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s busing efforts. Abbott’s been shipping migrants from the border to cities that declare themselves sanctuaries. It’s kind of like saying, “Oh, you want to be a sanctuary city? Here you go!”
But instead of welcoming these migrants with open arms, Adams has decided to implement rules that would make a drill sergeant blush. Bus companies are required to give city officials 32 hours’ notice of arrivals, and migrants must be dropped off between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., Monday through Friday, at one designated location. Talk about micromanagement!
And what happens if these bus companies don’t follow Adams’ rules? Well, they could be charged with a class B misdemeanor, face hefty fines, and even have their buses impounded. So much for being a sanctuary city, huh?
This isn’t just happening in New York City, though. Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has also enacted restrictions on migrant buses. And you know what Abbott did in response? He started flying migrants into Chicago.
So, what’s the moral of this story? Well, it seems like these self-proclaimed sanctuary cities aren’t as welcoming as they’d like us to believe. When push comes to shove, they’d rather impound buses and hand out fines than deal with the reality of their policies.
And while this political game of hot potato continues, it’s the migrants who suffer. Is this really the best solution we can come up with? Maybe it’s time for our leaders to stop playing games and start coming up with real solutions. But hey, what do I know?
Until next time, folks. Keep your eyes peeled for the next episode of “Sanctuary City or Not.”
