‘Shameful’: Video Goes Viral of LeBron James Ignoring, Sitting During National Anthem
It looks like NBA superstar LeBron James has found himself in hot water again. This time, for something as simple as sitting down. “Big deal,” you might say. But hold on, before you jump to conclusions, let’s set the scene.
LeBron was attending his son’s college basketball game when he decided to strut into the arena and take a seat while the National Anthem was playing. A 34-second video clip of this act, captured by O.C. Register reporter Luca Evans, has since gone viral, with more than 3.9 million views in under 24 hours. Most people aren’t exactly thrilled with LeBron’s actions, labeling them as disrespectful. One conservative commentator put it this way: “Zero respect for the country that gave him the opportunity to be a basketball star. Zero respect for the country that allowed him to become a billionaire. Zero respect for the men and women who defend our country so he can live his life. Shameful.”

Now, this isn’t the first time LeBron’s shown a lack of appreciation for the U.S. Just last year, he suggested that WNBA star Brittney Griner, who was detained by Russia at the time, shouldn’t even want to come back to America. “Now, how can she feel like America has her back?” he asked. “I would be feeling like, ‘Do I even want to go back to America?’”
And who could forget when he claimed the U.S. was a rаcist and oppressive country? “You guys don’t understand. Unless you’re a person of color, you guys don’t understand,” he said. “I understand you might feel for us. But you will never truly understand what it is to be black in America.”
Funny thing is, LeBron seems pretty comfortable enjoying the fruits of this “rаcist and oppressive” country. From his multi-million dollar contracts to his high-profile endorsements, it’s safe to say that America has treated LeBron pretty well.
But hey, who am I to judge? Maybe LeBron just doesn’t like standing. Or maybe he was just tired from all that “oppression” he’s experiencing. Either way, it’s clear that he has some explaining to do. Because right now, it seems like the only thing LeBron’s standing for is disrespect. And that, my friends, is a slam dunk of hypocrisy.
