DeSantis Slams Republicans for Border Crisis
Alright, let’s talk about Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. This guy has had it up to here with the political grandstanding around the border crisis. He’s sick and tired of Republicans using it as a political football every election season. And guess what? He’s not just whining about it, he’s promising to actually do something about it. During a recent CNN presidential town hall event in Iowa, DeSantis came out swinging. When an audience member asked him about the border crisis, he didn’t mince his words. He said that as president, he would “empower states to enforce immigration law” allowing states like Texas to deport illegal aliens back across the border.
DeSantis also plans to build the border wall that Trump promised but couldn’t deliver. And how does he plan to pay for it? By imposing fees on remittances that workers send back to foreign countries. He estimates this could raise billions of dollars for the construction of the wall.
DeSantis went on to say that if Trump had built the wall, it would have been much harder for Biden to bring in so many people illegally. He emphasized that the wall is a physical barrier that even an open-border president would struggle to get around.
“I am going to build the border wall,” he said. “And I remember in 2016, I went to the rallies with Donald Trump, he said he was going to build the wall and have Mexico pay for it. And that didn’t happen. And why didn’t it happen? Well, one, I think he got distracted. And he didn’t do it on day one. But two, he didn’t utilize the levers of power that he had. So how do you get Mexico to pay for it? Well, they’re not just going to give us money. … Here’s what you do. You impose fees on the remittances that workers send back to foreign countries, Mexico, Central America, really all over the world, you’d raise billions of dollars, we’ll put it into constructing the border wall.”
“We as Republicans, probably 99% blame Biden for 8 million people coming in illegally,” he continued. “It’s been bad for the country. And I do too. But here’s the thing. If Trump had built the border wall, it would have been very difficult for Biden to bring in all those many people. That’s why you want a wall. It’s a physical fact of life, that even an open-border president would not be able to get around so I will get the job done. The talk is cheap. And I’m sick of Republicans always using this issue every election cycle, to try to get donations and to try to tell the people if you do it, we are going to bring the issue to a conclusion.”

DeSantis is promising to roll up his sleeves and tackle the border crisis head-on. No more political games, no more empty promises. He’s ready to put his money where his mouth is. And if he keeps this up, he just might give Biden a run for his money in the next election, but first he has to get around Trump which is the unstoppable force that is dominating the political field.
