House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has declared that the impeachment inquiry against Joe Biden has reached a critical stage where key witnesses should be placed under oath. This statement was released on Wednesday, following an update from Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY), who is spearheading this endeavor, alongside Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO).

Johnson stated, “At this stage, our impeachment inquiry has already showcased the corrupt conduct of Biden’s family and the repeated lies by him and White House officials about his knowledge and involvement in his family’s business activities.” He also brought attention to the tens of millions of dollars from foreign adversaries funneled into shell companies controlled by Biden’s son, brother, and their business associates.

The logical next step, according to Johnson, is to place key witnesses under oath and question them under the penalty of perjury to fill gaps in the record. He commended the diligent work of Chairmen Comer, Jordan, and Smith, expressing his full and unwavering support as the investigation moves toward a pivotal point.

The impeachment inquiry, initiated in mid-September, is investigating potential corruption in government due to the Biden family’s business practices. Despite Biden and his allies insisting there is no wrongdoing and claiming the inquiry is politically tainted, last week saw the start of a new wave of subpoenas and transcribed interview requests.

Among the subpoena targets were Hunter Biden, James Biden, and Rob Walker, a former Biden family business associate. The subpoenas demanded a deposition from each individual, with dates extending from the end of November to mid-December.

Speaker Johnson recently indicated to reporters that he would not “predetermine” an outcome. However, he did state that the impeachment inquiry has reached an “important step” in ensuring due process, hinting that a decision might be imminent.
